My pledge to not to spend a single penny on my mini-project in this semester was successful!!
Hehehe… The overnight modifications a day before submissions actually worked! And… It was a big relief! So, not spending a penny would mean that we had to make a software project, ain’t that right?
Here was the problem!!
While choosing the software, MATLAB which everyone used was an ideal target for external and internal examiners to bombard with questions which the students fell prey. And… it would be stupid to fall right into their trap after knowing all that!
Here is my solution!!
Pick up a software that professors don’t know about! Simple as that!!
When people see things for the first time, they usually find them cool, even if in reality those things might suck!
As for us, we used *Cisco Packet Tracer*
It’s not a shit software by any chance, I guarantee you that much! It looks simple but I had to work my ass off the night before our submissions to get our simulations working!
About the simulations, we made 3 copies using RIP, EIGRP and OSPF. EIGRP is directly copied from this awesome guy Srinivas Dareddy and here is the youtube link to his video:
Enterprise Network Design Using Cisco Packet Tracer
So, I put RIP into it and OSPF wasn’t working on the frame-relay sub-interfaces so had to make an alternate design.
Here you can demonstrate the use of DNS, HTTP, access-control lists, IP telephony, Email via SMTP, NAT, VLAN trunking, STP, DHCP, Router-on-stick configuration and dynamic routing protocols. As for the configurations we submitted, here are the links to download the configurations and the report:
As for the submissions, the external was pretty impressed on seeing something new. You just need to explain him why we needed to modify the configuration in case of OSPF. Its pretty simple stuff that sounds complicated, but I’m bored to type all that right now.
If you wish to go crazy and learn more then refer to this book:
CCNA Routing and Switching Study Guide – Lammle, Todd
And lastly, thanks to my wonderful group who went along with my stupid idea which turned out great somehow, not that it matters now as everyone got 9/10 from the external examiners side.
So good luck guys! Feel free to copy anything from here and lemme know if you have any questions!
